Global healthcare consumers consist primarily of those seeking low-cost, high-quality care for medically necessary or discretionary procedures. As medical-tourism volumes increase, the demand for comparative tools that evaluate provider quality will rise. Currently, there are no comprehensive, comparative metrics for international hospitals or physicians who practice abroad. In addition, it is difficult to obtain outcome-based, procedure-specific information on both international hospitals and surgeons. An Aequitas Group company intends to fulfill the unmet market need by developing the missing evaluative tool for medical-tourism–destination and physician selection.
The Aequitas Group is launching a new initiative to facilitate the growth of international medical tourism. The World Hospital Monitor (WHM) is a Web-based resource for global healthcare consumers, medical-tourism service providers, and payors to assess the comparative quality of global healthcare-service providers. Website visitors will be able to search WHM’s database using selected criteria to confidently choose an appropriate service provider abroad. Hospitals, clinics, and physicians operating in the medical-tourism space will have the opportunity to publish general information, comparative metrics, and patient-survey information on the WHM website.
